Western Red Cedar
(Thuja plicata)
Certified
Origin: Western Coast of Canada
Timber Characteristics
Natural Durability
Class 2 - Durable or Class 3 - Moderately Durable (dependant on origin)
Original Colour
The heartwood varies from dark chocolate brown to salmon pink, with the sapwood being white in colour.
Its straight grain and moderate hardness combine well to make it an excellent wood to work to very precise dimensions.
Much sought after because it 'weathers' to an attractive silver grey colour and does not require preservative pre-treatment in general applications. Takes a surface coating system well and the degree of pigmentation will strongly influence the final appearance and the amount of maintenance.
